Scientists search for extraterrestrial life using agnostic biosignatures that don't assume carbon-based chemistry, as silicon-based life is unlikely due to its rigid bonds and lower cosmic abundance; we currently know only about a dozen Earth-like planets in habitable orbits out of 5,000 known exoplanets, and while black holes are found at the center of every galaxy, their formation remains a mystery; planets without magnetic fields could potentially support life through induced magnetic fields from their atmospheres, and Venus likely had oceans but underwent a runaway greenhouse effect that made it uninhabitable.
