Regenerative agriculture is a farming approach that works in synchrony with nature to repair, rebuild, revitalize, and restore ecosystem function by following six ecological principles: farming in context with the environment, minimizing mechanical and chemical disturbance, keeping soil covered (never bare), maintaining diversity, ensuring living roots in the soil year-round, and integrating animals and insects. This approach has been shown to dramatically improve soil health (increasing organic matter from 1.7% to nearly 8%), enhance water infiltration rates from 0.5 inches to over 32 inches per hour, increase biodiversity (wildlife populations multiplied tenfold), and produce foods with significantly higher nutritional value (up to 64% more vitamins and 139% more essential fatty acids). By sequestering carbon back into the soil, regenerative agriculture offers a solution to climate change while simultaneously improving food quality and rural community sustainability.
