The H-1B wage level (Level 1-4) is determined by the official OFLC Wage Search tool using the latest Department of Labor data series, where Level 1 represents entry-level positions, Level 2 is intermediate, Level 3 is senior, and Level 4 is fully competent; applicants can improve their lottery chances by negotiating to allocate compensation components like bonuses or stocks into their base salary, or by requesting synonymous job titles that may qualify for higher wage levels, though such changes require employer approval and attorney consultation to avoid RFE or denial.
How to Determine H-1B Wage Level Using OFLC Step-by-Step
Added:Yo peace >> what's happening people. Thanks for tuning in. Welcome back to another episode of restart. H1B season is on H1B lottery and while I was reviewing I was thinking you know H1B or H1B.
This cross-seeking like you know you know being completely random lottery how wage level based lottery and you know level one level two level three or level four category depending on number of applications and number of applicants in each level I'll reference those two videos you know thumbnails maybe you know description do check them out before you watch that video. But I've never made a video on how to check which wage level you fall into. Like let's say $100,000 for software engineering role. How do you find out on which level you fall into depending on the location you are in, depending on the job title, depending on the salary.
I'll show that shortly. But today's video is going to be about that on the previous two videos and refer. I've never exclusively opened it, screenshot it and you know recorded it and showed it. So, but for any ones that's new who do not want to check those videos out complete random lottery like let's say 500,000 applications 5 lakh applications random 85,000 members 85,000 members so probability per application 85,000 by 450,000 or four 50,000 or five whatever total number of applicants but based on salary level and your location and Job title level one, level two, level three, level four each level.
For example, level one entries two entries or level three entries level four entries. So level four applicant chances in comparison to level one level four level just one lottery ticket. Right?
Makes sense, right? But calculations math separate video. If you're interested, do check that out. But for now, let's go into that website and I'll show you how to select what options to select and how to check your wage level depending on the county you fall in, location, you know, job title, etc. And then it has some benefits associated with it.
But for now, let's go into that website and let's check that out.
So first Google wage search and then click on the first you know website basic US department of labor and then you could select data series always select the latest series and you know while I'm making or while I'm recording this video 2025 to 2026 is the latest series so I'll select that and then select a collection all industries or ACW bas select you know like me I'm currently in corporate but if you're working for a nonprofit organization or universities let's say university engineer or you know you're a data scientist working for specifically for universities H1B category regular corporate H1B and that's when you have to select ACWA but for now all indicants are from this category and then enter the occupation you know occupation mechanical engineer okay and let's say you have two of them mechanical engineering technologists and technicians mechanical engineers I'm a mechanical engineer I'm not a technician or technologist so mechanical engineers and then select state or territory I'm currently in New Jersey okay and then county township Burlington county when I submit I get these levels. So if you are in level one you know if you earn somewhere between $75,000 peranom that will be level one. If you earn somewhere 92 to $93,000 that's is level two and then level 3 is 109 and level four is 127. So now bigger question is okay wage level you know I have the information what will I do with this information?
Number one, you can start negotiating and negotiating.
But what you can do is compensation package different parts.
For example, let's say they offering me $85,000. Okay, that falls into in between level one and level two. and level.
So what I can do is let's say now base $85,000 and they offer me stocks or bonus or you know okay $10,000 separate I can go ask my employer that hey can you allocate the $10,000 into my base what will happen is now base $95,000 and don't give me bonus but this with this $95,000 so your chances at getting H1B in the lottery would be slightly higher and level two loan unlike level one entry level two entries so this is one advantage of it and second advantage closely aligned titles let's say R&D mechanical engineer mechanical design engineer let's say R&D mechanical engineer certain $100,000 $100,000 level but since the company is small since I'm wearing multiple hats responsibilities umbrella mechanical design engineer but of course these responsibilities should also match your master's degree obvious mechanical design engineer R&D engineer friend respons responsibility what I can do is my employer request and let's say if they approve it mechanical design for the same amount of salary I will probably fall into level two or level three so synonymous titles title switches you can apply and then you can gain advantage but again I would not recommend you making a decision of changing title talk to your employer talk to your lawyer talk to your attorney responsibil responsibilities am I eligible to switch if you're not clear about responsibilities and titles what might happen is request for evidence and if you don't prove it your H1B might get denied so I don't want that to happen so attorney but Yeah, just wanted to provide that information because I was reviewing it and then I thought I never showed it. I just referenced it.
But again, strongly recommend again watching my other two videos on this H1B wage level lottery.
So you'll understand what wage level has what chances depending on the number of applications. But that's it for the video. If you have any questions, do comment or do reach me out on LinkedIn or Instagram. I'll try to help you as much as I can.
But if not, that's what I say. But that's it for the video.
Bye-bye.
