This tutorial demonstrates how to create visually engaging startup pitch decks using Canva by following a structured approach: first, establish brand consistency by extracting colors from your startup's website and applying them throughout; second, use visual storytelling with imagery to communicate problems, solutions, and value propositions; third, leverage Canva's template library for sections like traction, competitive analysis, team, business model, and growth strategy while customizing them to maintain visual cohesion; fourth, keep text minimal and focus on impactful visuals; and fifth, end with a memorable 'zinger' slide that reinforces your brand message. The presenter emphasizes that Canva's user-friendly interface makes professional pitch deck design accessible even for those without design experience.
Startup Pitch Deck Design with Canva: A Step-by-Step Tutorial
Added:today we're going to be talking about how to create and design a startup pitch stack in canva and this is a step-by-step tutorial by none other than me danielle b so i'm really excited to get into this but first i want to preface by saying this is strictly about designing making it beautiful and engaging and aesthetic visually if you're interested to learn more about what slides are important how to store your cal throughout a pitch presentation or make a pitch deck that is compelling and what to include in it check out my video above and in the description on what to include in a startup pitch deck and that'll give you some insider tips and tricks on what to include so before we get into the video my name is danielle i've already said that but here we talk about everything entrepreneurship post graduate life and social media strategy if this is exciting for you give that like button a thumbs up and let's get into it for the structure of this video today i'm going to be using a random startup idea generator and i'll be showing that live to you and then we're going to use that idea and start up to create our slide deck so it's going to be about a fake business and fake idea but this is truly what i would be doing in canva to try to make sure that the slides are branded and designed in an engaging way whether it's for a student pitch competition you know an accelerator program pitch competition whatever you're developing this pitch deck for i'll take you through what i usually do and it's pretty simple and easy i can add i'm not you know one who knows how to use the adobe suite so i do love canva because it is very user friendly so hopefully you'll find that too i do have the camera pro version right now because i really enjoy it for making youtube videos actually in my thumbnails um but the free canva is just as useful you just might not get as much access to canva templates so it's something to think about but both work and you can use your own designing tools as well so we pulled up the random startup idea generator from tiff thank you tiff um i'll link this in the description if you want to play around and generate your own random startup ideas um but yeah we've got our business smart snatch um as you can see it's really general but it gives you like information on the team like some you know quotes that sort of stuff in a logo so first we're going to start by going to canva and when you're in canva you can pull up the presentation view and when you're in presentation view you'll have a blank slide and i basically went to the left there's the text section and i just chose a pretty standard text and then i put the name that i wanted each slide to be about and you can find my blank version in the description if you want to download that but simply i just put all the titles that i talked about in my previous video on pitch decks on each slide just to help me with the structure before i start designing now i've gone back to my random startup website that was generated and i'm using a color picking tool i have a google chrome plugin for this it's honestly one of my favorite things to use and basically what i'm doing is i'm picking up all the different colors on the website so all the different purples and whites and blacks and all that sort of stuff i'll also link that in the description if you want to use it this is not sponsored this is just a tool that i really love and use often we're going to start off with the one and the only title so what we're doing here is we're trying to make it cohesive branded because it might sit up for a while before you start your pitch presentation so i've taken the branded colors that i pulled from the website and i'm putting that purple in the background and then also i'm grabbing the logo and removing the background that is the canva pro feature but i'll put in the description a link to a free background remover online if you'd like to use that and then basically i'm trying to make it pop i'm trying to add a one-liner about what the business is about and make sure it is as branded as possible so here i was thinking okay smart snatch the website doesn't say much about the idea so i had a lot of creative freedom so i thought back to when i was in university and i partook in crossfit for a little while i definitely wasn't no pro but enjoyed it while i was there and if you're not familiar with snatching or crossfit there's a move called the the snatch where you like roll up the weight um and basically yeah that's where this idea blossomed and why i'm going with weight lifter for the imagery here now for the problem slide so i started by pulling up the elements and clicking on the photo section because i wanted a photo that displayed a real problem i wanted someone who looked like they were in pain for maybe like a barbell falling on their face or something like that so i found my subject and i love this photo i mean i hope this guy is okay um but yeah really just sticking to imagery big titles and trying to make sure that you see visually the problem that i'm trying to paint for the solution slide basically what i did is i was going to the website trying to find any one liners that i could borrow about the solution but basically i went back to the photos and i tried to find it where like someone was helping someone with lifting so maybe smart snatch is you know about being a guide for someone to make sure that they don't end up like the guy on the previous slide who had his face that basically from the barbell so we ended up with this for the value prop fortunately on the website it said you know the value pops basically that it was friendly innovative and affordable and gave a pretty brief description about all of them so what i wanted to do is kind of reinvent this so you know i created a border always trying to make sure the slides look different and engaging they're not all the same but the colors and themes throughout make it seem cohesive so i did that and then basically i wanted to kind of represent the imagery on the website so i created these three sort of blocks and then from there i wanted um like graphics that represented each word so what you can see i did here is you know i was looking up um the words from the website and i found you know a sort of design that i liked so when you find a design you'd like you can click on three dots above it and then that will give you an option to select to use or view more by that person who created that design and that's basically what i did to find other similar designs that i could use for the different titles and once i had those i organized them made sure they were the size and the color i wanted and then from there i basically added a title for each making sure simple the text is big it's focused on imagery and i'll be getting across all the other details through my storytelling for the traction slide i went to the website and poked around to see if i could find anything that i could maybe repurpose but i wasn't a big fan of what they were seeing so you know i've put the the color of purple you might even notice that i am using the two shades of purple so it is like slightly changing up here and there from the website but what i did is i actually went into template so templates can be free and they can be pro um i do have camera pro as dimension so i kind of have the full selection but sometimes what you can do is if you like canva pro template you can get inspiration and then maybe you can try to recreate it yourself or what i would often do is just get the free trial and cancel it right away so that you don't get charged after it so it's something you can do so i found this template and i actually only wanted to use like this half circle whatever shape and other than that i filled in my information changed it to like letters and intent made the font bigger that's a big thing this is probably even too small still but you know i wanted to have a little bit of text there and then yeah i basically searched for um this arrow because i wanted to show growth and found an image that displayed what you know this gym environment and happy people and what you know the traction looks like now that we have these people buying in so now we have the competitive analysis slide and for this one again doing you know the purple brand but first i was sort of looking for some lines because usually for competitive analysis people will do a sort of chart that i'll show you here and basically i was just trying to size it to be the right proportions and then from there pulling in logos so this is logos that you would pull from your actual competitors i was just using graphics to represent this since i don't know where competitors are and then i would basically put my logo where both of the high points are so i did mess this up which i'll address later but um basically i put our two axis labels user friendly and technology focused for the team slide this one i knew that there were templates on because in canva you will find business and team pitch deck presentation templates so i immediately went to the template tried to find you know a team slide that i enjoyed i did have to do a bit of digging around and then when i found it i just pulled in the photos from the website and then inputted them and added the titles and one thing to note again sometimes we'll do a small font but it's very light tags heavy on the imagery heavy on the branding but we're changing up the slides then for the business model i'm focusing on customer acquisition so what i did was i pulled up a template because i know that these sort of things exist on canva already and i love templates like whether it's using it for inspiration using the full template itself or a small part of it so here i just rebranded it and added a few different titles about how we're acquiring our customers as i mentioned i'm not a big financial projections person so i kind of skimmed back by this one pretty quickly so as you can see i just formatted it so we could put our high top numbers up there that we want to get across and this is something you can definitely dig into a bit more but this is how i would generally format it for the ass quite simply i usually stick to just putting the number what the ass is clearly on the screen now for the growth strategy again i was sort of pulling through templates seeing if there were ones that exist usually for growth plans there is some sort of like vertical like chart like this or i guess that wouldn't be a chart but a timeline sort of and i pulled that in rebranded it used my own titles again got rid of heavy text because we want to keep it light and that sort of worked out well to tell my growth and then for the zinger i wanted to end it you know with a good picture kind of bringing back in the storytelling element of the people from the beginning and so that's where i went to photos and i found a person who was snatching and then branded it again and then from there put my question to kind of make people think about it afterwards after i'm done pitching i just wanted to pop in here and say thank you so much for sticking around if you made it to this point and watching this video i want you to let me know below what was your favorite part of
