Chalmers proposes that consciousness might be a fundamental property of reality (pansychism), similar to how space, time, and mass are fundamental properties in physics. He also explores the simulation hypothesis, suggesting that even if we're in a simulation, it doesn't mean the world isn't real—it just means we're made of data structures in a higher-level universe. Chalmers believes consciousness is essential for meaning and moral status, as beings without consciousness (philosophical zombies) wouldn't deserve moral consideration. Regarding AI, he thinks consciousness might naturally emerge from sufficiently complex cognitive systems, making it difficult to separate from intelligence.
